Stadium | Goodison Park (opened 1892) Capacity: 40,157 Pitch Size: 100m x 68m Goodison Park has been an all seater stadium since 1994. Over the course subsequent decades Everton would be involved in several long running debates as to the future of the club. The feeling is that in order to maximise the potential of the club, they need to expand. Several options have been put forward including, developing the current stadium, finding a new site and even a ground share with hated rivals Liverpool. None of these options are without controversy as fan groups, the owners and the local authority square off against each other. |
Recent History | Everton were most successful under the legendary Howard Kendall. Over the course of the 1980s they won the FA Cup, the Division 1 title twice and the European Cup Winners Cup. Kendall would enjoy less successful spells at the club in the 1990s, whilst Joe Royle did succeed in steering Everton to an FA Cup victory. In the early 2000s David Moyes hit the headlines and in 2004/5 guided The Toffees to a 4th placed finish in the Premier League. He also unleashed a young Wayne Rooney on English football before selling him to Manchester United, the club he would sign for himself in 2012/13. Roberto Martinez would also make waves at Everton with a 5th placed finish. Less successful spells were endured under Ronald Koeman and Sam Allardyce. Marco Silva, Carlo Ancelotti & former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez would sign in subsequent years as Everton look to challenge higher up the Premier League. |
