Stadium | Bramall Lane (opened 1855) Capacity: 32,125 Pitch Size: 102m x 66m Bramall Lane is famous for its electric atmosphere given that the corners of the ground are sealed. The first ever match under floodlights took place here in 1878. The stadium has undergone various improvements over the years and as of 1994 was all-seater. The Kop Stand houses home fans on match days and is responsible for a great deal of the noise that can be heard at games. Plans have been put forward to redevelop The Kop adding another 3,500 seats, but this has yet to come to fruition. |
Recent History | The 2002/03 season under Neil Warnock saw Sheffield United enjoy their most successful season in recent times. They reached the Division One play off final, although eventually lost to Wolves and made it to the semi final of both domestic cup competitions. Warnock would guide United to the Premier League some 3 seasons later, but was unable to avoid the drop at the first attempt to stay up. Further hopes of promotion would come in 2009 via a play off final spot. That failure was followed by relegation to League One. With the team struggling, Prince Abdullah of Saudi royal family took a 50% stake in the company that owns Sheffield United. A return to the 2nd tier came in 2016/17 and by 2018/19 they were back in the Premier League. |
