Football Season Review

№18: ADO Den Haag

Swans' season was in line with expectations and with what they had shown last year...at the time of suspension due to the pandemic, they were in second to last position with just 19 points in 26 rounds. This season was even worse, until the 7th round they managed to stay slightly above the relegation zone, but from the next one they never got out, remained anchored to the last place from the 27th till the end. This means that after 13 consecutive seasons in Eredivisie ADO Den Haag were relegated to Eerste Divisie. The blame for this failure is mainly attributable to those who manage the club. They had started the championship with Aleksandar Rankovic on the bench and, after just 8 rounds, they replaced him with Ruud Brood, with whom things went much worse. In addition, the club has practically changed the whole team in the summer transfer market and has continued to change even in the winter, thus creating confusion within the team. Difficult to save any of the players in such a disastrous season, yet, despite the defense being the second worst in the league with 76 goals conceded, the defensive department was the least to blame. Austrian goalkeeper Martin Fraisl, since he was called into question, has done his duty to a great extent, as have center-back Shaquille Pinas and especially young right-back Milan van Ewijk, the most positive note of the whole ADO season. With the return in January of the talented midfielder El Khayati, a breakthrough was expected, but too many physical problems have affected his performance. The biggest disappointments came from the attackers (ADO had the worst attack of the league with just 29 goals scored), the two ex Lazio Kishna and Adekanye were two ghosts, slightly better young Besuijen, Arweiler and experienced Kramer, ADO's top scorer with 6 goals.
