Football Season Review

№5: Antalyaspor

When week eight was played in the league, Antalya were the biggest candidate for relegation as they were the bottom side and the sole winless team. No one could imagine that this team were going to miss a European spot in the late fixtures of the season. It is absolutely the story of their season. After the board could not stand to see the team’s poor performances, coach Jose Morais was replaced by coach Riza Calimbay. Once he came in, the mood of the South coast city side changed completely and they recorded twelve victories in fifteen fixtures. Their away performance was also great as they suffered only one defeat in the season’s second period. Although the coach failed to get any efficiency from the support players, his regular line up did a great job. During the whole season, they adopted a 4-2-3-1 formation. The most important part of the team was absolutely the offence line. The experienced Samuel Eto’o did a great job once again as he has produced eighteen goals. His support trio including Mbilla Etame, Danilo and Deniz Kadah have also done a good job as they produced fourteen goals & ten assists. In the defence line, they faced a problem at left back as Motta had to miss many fixtures because of his family problems. In his absence, Sakip Aytac filled his role very well. If Antalya are one of the top performers defending, the center-back duo Celustka and Angelo have the biggest role. In the midfield, Charles and Zeki Yildirim were very successful playing both ways of the game. On the net, it seems like they need to bring a new face because the coach was not very happy with the performances of Ferhat and Fornezzi. For the next season, the club president believes that they can earn a European spot. In order to do that, they need to build a wide squad. Especially, it is a must to have more options in both flanks.

Player of the Season: Samuel Eto'o
