Football Season Review

№11: Karabukspor

It was an interesting season for Karabuk. Although they offered the worst away performance of the league, they managed to guarantee their survival one month before the season’s end. Of course, their great home performances made it happen. Except the champion Besiktas and the runners up Basaksehir, they were the best in the home performance table. In the middle of February, they faced a coach crisis. Coach Igor Tudor left the team and signed for Galatasaray. According to the board, it was not ethical. Following that, the team lost their concentration for a while and they could record only one victory in seven fixtures. It means that his successor coach Zoran Barisic could not do well. That is why the board decided not to keep on working with him. After they parted company with Kokalovic and Hakan Aslantas, they failed to bring new faces for the right back. Their center backs’ performances were not satisfactory. In the midfield, Ceyhun Gülselam and Andre Poko did a good job but they really missed a creative minded man during the whole season. In the winter transfer market, they brought Yevhen Seleznyov in. He has managed to score some decisive goals for Karabuk early on after his arrival. In the late days of November, they found out that Traore’s son passed away. Following that, he could never manage to return to his good performance. This sad news also affected his teammates badly. Had it not happened, they could have collected more points. For the next season, they need to improve the quality of the defence line. To bring a creative midfielder should be a must.
