Football Season Review

№2: Basaksehir

Basaksehir did a great job and recorded their best league performance ever. In fact, they wanted to write history as they sat at the top of the league for a long time. Then they were always inside the title race but they finished the season in the second place. They managed to remain undefeated at home but their away performance was not good enough to clinch the title. Although they were eliminated in the play-off round of the Europa League and lost the Turkish Cup final, it could be said that coach Abdullah Avci’s team were very successful as they got a spot for the qualifiying round of the Champions League. Considering that they are far from the fan pressure, they have always fought in a great mood. As the lower conceding team, the defence line were the best of the league. The Turkish national team keeper Volkan Babacan and center-back Epureanu contributed to their team’s success a lot. Of course, defensive midfielder Emre Belozoglu and Mahmut Tekdemir also supported them. The hot prospect Cengiz Under attracted all attentions to him as an offensive winger. Although Emmanuel Adebayor came following the winter break, his seven-goal performance was decisive. Marcio Mossoro’s efforts were very helpful in organizing the offensive plans. Once again, Edin Visca deserved to be the MVP of the season after he produced ten goals and thirteen assists. For the next season, they have more expectations. In order to reach them, the coach is aware that they should have a longer squad. If they can do it, they have everything to be successful.

Player of the Season: Edin Visca
