Football Season Review

№15: Kayserispor

When the league entered into the winter break, Kayseri were one of the biggest relegation candidates as they were standing in the danger zone. Their squad quality was also the biggest reason for that. The departure of the strong winger Prejuce Nakoulma along with some players worsened their offensive power. The board took an important decision in January and appointed coach Sergen Yalcin instead of coach Hakan Kutlu, who had failed to stretch the previous season’s success. Besides that, they brought some new faces. It worked greatly in the short term and they managed to collect ten points against four title-holders. In the early days of March, they were feeling comfortable but it did not last long as they suffered four-defeats in a row. After coach Yalcin resigned, the board appointed coach Mesut Bakkal. He did a great job and made the team guarantee the survival in three fixtures. It is obvious that Deniz Turuc, who recorded 11 goals and 11 assists, and Welliton, who scored 15 goals, were the most remarkable performers of the season. On the other side, their defensive performance absolutely needs to be improved as they recorded only four clean sheets. During the season, they could not get efficiency from keepers and defenders. In general, their away performance may be considered good enough but they should have collected mroe points at home. For the next season, the board should take a decision about the coach. If they decides to keep on working with coach Bakkal, then they will be busy in building the squad. At this point, they will try to make permanent deals with loanees who made a good job in the season’s second period.
