Football Season Review

№9: Konyaspor

Even though Konya failed to repeat the previous season’s league success and offered a very bad performance in their Europa League stage experience, it was a memorable campaign for the fans as their team managed to win the Turkish Cup for the first time in the club history. Once again, they deserved to compete directly in the group stage. It was quite easy to notice that they really struggled to cope with the heavy schedule. The biggest reason for that was the limited squad depth. Coach Aykut Kocaman had to ignore the late fixture of the group stage after his team failed to get any good results in the early games. After it came to an end, they started to do much better in the league and concentrated on the Turkish Cup. On the late fixtures of the season, they lost their concentratin in the league because they were progressing towards the final of the cup. Besides that, the board tried to prevent the rumours of coach Kocaman’s departure from affecting the team badly. They did a good job at least till the end of the season. Their away performance could be considered satisfactory but they lost many points at home. It was noticed that they struggled to unlock the defensive minded teams. They managed to score more than one goal in only six fixtures. At this point, young Milosevic was not good enough to be creative. So it seems like it is a must to bring a good play-maker. Bajic produced 20 goals & 5 assists in the official fixtures. If they want to be successful in the next season, they need to keep him in the team and have one more player who will contribute to the offensive duty.

Player of the Season: Riad Bajic
