Football Season Review

№3: Fenerbahce

“To finish the season in the third place with this squad is a big success”. It could be good enough to summarize the whole season with coach Dick Advocaat’s sentence. It was not an easy campaign for the Yellow Canaries. They have always had to cope with the crisis of the Dutch coach. He had not a good relationship with his players in general. It affected their performance and the team faced many ups and downs during the season. For example, they failed to defeat the bottom side at home but they managed to overcome the Europa League champion Manchester United in Istanbul. It is known that they have been a very strong team at home and their away performance was mediocre but they have lost a lot of blood this time at their own venue and their away efforts were satisfactory. According to some authorities, the club president made a mistake when coach Advocaat started to lose his authority over all players. In the recent weeks of the season, they concentrated on the Turkish Cup but it was another disappointment for them. Once the fans saw some bad performances early on, they did not support their team a lot. So, most of the stands were empty. They also faced some unexpected bad performances from some players including Robin Van Persie. Jeremain Lens was also expected to do so much but he was not a superman. Some injured players including Fernandao made the coach have a limited staff to build a line up. Although he missed some fixtures because of the African Cup of Nations, Sow did a great job with fifteen goals. It is sure that many things have to change for the next season in order to interest the fans. To see a coach change and some arrivals are very likely.

Player of the Season: Moussa Sow
