Football Season Review

№11: FC Dallas 96

FC Dallas showed a little improvement in Luchi Gonzalez's second season in charge of the club, making it to the playoffs by finishing sixth in the Western Conference and making it to the Conference semifinals for the first time in four years. With a number of players and staff being tested positive for corona virus, Dallas had played just two games until August after sitting out the MLS is Back tournament. While they did suffer a shock defeat to Nashville following the restart, they did hit a good run of form that saw them win four and lose just one of their next eight games. Dallas ended the regular season with a flourish, winning three of their final four games to finish in sixth place and put up a couple of solid defensive displays in the playoffs where they beat Portland Timbers following a penalty shootout only to lose out 0-1 to Seattle Sounders in the Conference semifinals. Dallas once again struggled in the absence of a reliable goal scorer up front, despite bringing in Franco Jara midway through the campaign, new arrivals Thiago Santos and Ricaurte dovetailed well with Bryan Acosta to present a solid combination in the center of the midfield. There are areas where Dallas will need to improve though with Barrios enduring a poor campaign on the flanks while Fafa Picault also failed to impress. However with a number of young players coming through to the first team, Gonzalez will be looking for a better campaign next season.
