Football Season Review

№8: Portland Timbers

A strange season ended for the Timbers and we could say that it was succesful as they won the MLS is Back Tournament in summer and automatically earned a spot in the CONCACAF Champions League next season. The Timbers had played very well during summer but they were hit by injuries in the autumn so they couldn't continue performing in the same high level although coach Savarese was trying to rotate his squad very often in order to keep his players fresh. Diego Valeri was definetely the star of the team again with 8 goals scored and 7 assists provided but also Eryk Williamson will take the point for the most improved player this season as he excelled many times. In general Timbers' fans could be satisfied not only by winning the summer tournament but because Portland played a more attractive football than 2019 season and maybe one of the best in their last 5 years. Next year there won't be any summer tournament and a second chance for Portland so they must just focus to improve their team and be more consistent for 90 minutes of play because, this season, there were many matches that they played well for 60 or 70 minutes but at the end they couldn't keep the result they wanted.

Player of the Season: Diego Valeri
