Blaubitz Akita existed in mid-table all of last season. Finished only 14th in the end but survival was secured full 2 months before the campaign ended. Enjoyed very strong run during the spring. Missed out on the top spot in their mini-league but still claimed the sixth place in the final standings of the Vision League. Had the best defence of all 40 teams with just 14 goals conceded in 18 rounds. Muramatsu was a crucial figure as to why the defence was so good. He opted to leave though. The other departure that weakens further the left side is that of attacking midfielder Daiki Sato. Iwai and Kawakami has been loaned in to replace the latter. Both of them have a legitimate shot at becoming regulars. However, neither seen to be as good as Sato was at creating chances for teammates. Akita like to control the ball at home and they should continue to try and dominate possession in these matches. Striker Aihara, new arrival, is not expected to start often. He is experienced player though and hopes are he could become a super sub. Remains unclear what tactics will be used. Tried 5 different formations in the 4 pre-season friendlies. Also, during the Vision League last spring used 4 different shapes. Akita’s squad doesn’t feel much weaker compared to last year but there hasn’t been that much strengthening either.
