Minnesota United enjoyed their best season as an MLS franchise, finishing fourth in the Western Conference and coming within 15 minutes of booking their place in the MLS Cup only for a late collapse denying them the opportunity. The midfield balance was the key to Minnesota's excellent campaign last season and they have only improved the depth heading into the new campaign. The Loons have retained Osvaldo Alonso despite his injury problems last year but have got themselves a high quality backup in Wil Trap who has been one of the best midfielders in the MLS prior to his move to Inter Miami last season but had a forgettable campaign. Jukka Raitala has also been signed to improve the depth both in the center of the defense as well as the leftback where Chase Gasper is expected to remain the first choice. Juan Agudelo is the other major arrival and is expected to replace Kei Kamara though Minnesota largely played without a recognized striker in the final weeks of the campaign. The biggest miss will be that of Kevin Molino with the winger leaving the club despite leading the scoring charts last season. Minnesota have also lost some of their depth players with Jose Aja, Aaron Schoenfeld, Marlon Hairston and Thomas Chacon all leaving the club. Minnesota still have room to improve their options, especially upfront, and should they manage to bring in a reliable goal scorer, then the Loons should once again be involved in the fight for the top spot in the Western Conference.

Target

Should easily make it to the playoffs but will be looking to be involved in the Supporters' Shield race.
