Portimonense had two distinct moments, last season. Ended the first half of the season with just 1 point above the last place. For the second half, Paulo Sérgio finally found the ideal shape for his team and 'Alvinegros' picked a good series of 11 games, with good performances at home. Striker Beto exploded during that good moment and was crucial for Portimonense's recovery on the table. Unfortunately, Beto is an imminent departure with several clubs interested in him. Captain Dener and defensive leader Maurício are also important downs for the new season, but 'Algarvios' had an efficient move on the market and the squad seems stronger than last season, even if Beto is confirmed to leave. Samuel Portugal is a great asset in goal. The Iranian Payam Niazmand was brought possibly to cover a possible sale of Samuel. In defence, Jefferson may be an interesting addition, but Willyan and Lucas should form a solid back duo. Maurício's departure may not me noticed. Carlinhos and Imbula are huge signings, but they have a lot to prove. Carlinhos failed to impress in Brazil, last season, while Imbula has been struggling with injuries in recent years and barely played last season. The return of Lucas Fernandes from long injury should be the biggest "new signing" of the season. Youngsters Samuel and Renato Júnior were brought in to replace Beto in the striker position. Aylton, Fabrício and Anderson Oliveira will guarantee the quality in attack. Paulo Sérgio should keep the 433 system, but the arrival of left-footed CB Jeferson may give him the chance to occasionally lineup a back-3. The prospect of having a trio of Imbula, Carlinhos and Lucas Fernandes in midfield (if they recover good fitness) is exciting.

Target

Portimonense should be hovering the middle of the table but, if those 3 in midfield find their best physical shape, they can push into a better spot in the end.
