Football Season Guide

For the second time in a row, Gil Vicente had a safe season, last year. 'Galos' were solid enough to repeat the mid-table performance of the previous season. Based on the Brazilian talent (Denis, Ygor, Lucas Mineiro and Lourency), Gil was able to have a smooth run in 2020-21. Coach Ricardo Soares was kept for the new season, and he will have the task to rebuild the team after many changes on the squad during the summer. Goalkeepers Denis and Beunardeau, defenders Joel, Paulinho, Ygor and Rodrigão, midfielders Lucas Mineiro and Claude Gonçalves and strikers Lourency and Pedro Marques are all important departures. Lucas Mineiro and Lourency seem very hard to replace, in fact. Kritciuk was a very good adding for goal, and soon Denis should be forgotten. Lucas Cunha arrived to replace Ygor Nogueira and it seems like a good fit for Gil Vicente. Emma Hackman is an interesting addition for the right-back position. Matheus Bueno arrived with the difficult task of replacing Lucas Mineiro in midfield. Jean is a good signing for versatility. Fans will hope for a quick recovery of João Afonso, but they will now rely on Vítor Carvalho to be the strongest unit and reference in midfield. Murilo and Bilel were brought for the wings, where Lourency will be missed. Leautey and Kanya are expected to have a more important role. Spanish Fran Navarro was signed in to lead the attack and seems like a really good addition. Ricardo Soares is expected to keep his balanced approach, sensibly mixing a hard-working mentality with some free flowing, fast paced attacks based on a 433/4231 system.
