Last season was another disappointing one for 'Conquistadores', who missed qualification for European competitions. A few problems with the first coaches and a disastrous planning of the season was the major reasons for the disappointing 7th place. Coach Pepa was brought in after an extraordinary work with Paços de Ferreira. There are high hopes that Pepa will return Guimarães to their usual standards. He should bring the 433 he successfully used at Paços. Only two players were signed, so far. Borevkovic for defence and Alfa Semedo for midfield. The two should be options for the starting XI. Rafa Soares returned from a loan spell in Spain and should be the owner of the left-back position. Guimarães didn't manage to keep Pepelu, and there are constant rumours related with Marcus Edwards. Apart from these two, Guimarães have been doing a good job in letting a few players go, as last season's squad was too big and unbalanced. Bruno Varela seems to be the man for the goal once again, despite having proved to be a liability at times. Jorge Fernandes and Sacko will complete the back-4 with new faces Borevkovic and Rafa. Youngster André Amaro is soon expected to blossom into a great player. André André, André Almeida should form a trio with Alfa Semedo, but the fans are hoping that Joseph Amoah can return to his best condition after more than a year absent. Youngster Tomás Haendel has been the sensation of pre-season. Estupiñan and Bruno Duarte will continue their duel for the striker position. Edwards (if staying), Rochinha, Quaresma and Lameiras are guarantee of high quality on the wings.

Target

The highly demanding fans will hope to see Guimarães involved in the top-5 positions once again. Finishing ahead of their arch-rivals Braga seems very difficult for now.
