A strong end to the season under new manager Gary Caldwell really helped Wigan last term and they will now look to keep their place back in the Championship after surprisingly dropping down to the third tier from the top flight. They certainly proved they have good enough players and Caldwell has done well to secure a solid nucleus over the summer. Stephen Warnock, Dan Burn and Jake Buxton are experienced players who should fit into the Wigan mould. Alex Gilbey is an exciting midfielder while Nick Powell's arrival from Manchester United is most impressive. Adam Bogdan has also proved himself time and again at Championship level in the past and appears a useful signing on loan to take the roll between the sticks. Wigan will be quietly confident they can be the best of the three promoted sides.

Target

Mid-table will be a reasonable target.
