Football Season Review

№2: Basaksehir

Last season, Basaksehir made some great efforts to clinch the title, but the results brought them a big disappointment at the end, following a 4-horse race. This season, it was much more painful for them as they could not save an 8-point advantage. Once again, Edin Visca, who has produced 14 goals & 14 assists during the whole season, was the best performer of the team. Except him, all players including Robinho, Elia and Mossoro have offered unstable performances, which made them score 23 goals less than the champions Galatasaray. That is why this end was unavoidable for them. Thanks to Mert Gunok, Caicara, Clichy, Epureanu and Mahmut for their defensive performances as they have become the fewest conceding team of the league, but their offensive performance did not meet the expectations. In particular, they have failed to get enough performances from Adebayor, Bajic and Napoleoni. They tasted only one victory in the last 7 fixtures of the season. No doubt with their squad quality, but it seems like they could not cope with the title stress as they had failed to do so in the previous season. During the whole season, they struggled to unlock the defensive-minded teams. So the recent bad results were predictable. Their shock cup exit at an early round against the 1st division side Hatay was a kind of first sign ahead of their letdown in the late weeks. Coach Avci has already moved to the city rivals and they are expected to face more departures. It seems like next summer will be very busy for Basaksehir to put all things into the right path.
