Football Season Review

№3: Besiktas JK

When the previous season was over, the club president declared that "we will fight for the title as usual, but our top priority is to improve our financial situation". So they were planning to finish the season in the 2nd place in order to have a chance for UEFA CL’s group stage, but some unexpected results cost them heavily. That is why they failed to add high-profile players during the summer transfer market. Added to that, they had to part the company with some important players including Pepe and Babel in order to cut some expenses. Because of that, coach Senol Gunes sometimes struggled to build his best line up. Inside the short squad, some players were unable to satisfy the fans. Unfortunately, Liverpool loanee Karius failed to meet the expectations in his 1st year as he recorded only two clean sheets in 30 fixtures. After Pepe left the team in the winter transfer market, Isimat-Mirin could not offer the same efficiency as Vida's partner. Moreover, Gokhan Gonul, Caner Erkin and Adriano’s limited energies were not helping. Hutchinson’s early-season injury prevented him from offering his usual performance. They did not have any offensive problem especially with Burak Yilmaz’s arrival. In 15 fixtures, he managed to find the net 11 times. Ljajic, who has produced 9 goals & 12 assists, did a great job and became the biggest contributor to the team’s success. Guven Yalcin, who has been tracked by some European teams, proved that he is really a hot prospect and will be a part of next season’s plans. Coach Abdullah Avci quickly became the successor of coach Senol Gunes. It is already declared that some players will not be a part of the team in the next season. Everybody wonders how the new coach will act in the transfer market considering their financial situation.

Player of the Season: Adem Ljajic
