Football Season Review

№7: Antalyaspor

It was a solid success for Antalya considering that they faced lots of ups and downs during the whole season. However, they could have easily found themselves in Yeni Malatya's place, had they not recorded just one victory in 10 fixtures between December and March. They could have also caught it with only one victory in the latest fixtures, but they could do nothing against the teams which desperately needed points. Following Kasimpasa, they conceded most goals in the Super League. Their main defensive structure including Nazim Sangare who earned a call-up to the Turkish national team following his great performnce was a good one, but they did not have any back-up. For example, they really struggled defending while they were without Celustka, who was injured early on in 2019. Charles’s heavy injury in the initial fixtures made the midfield lose its defensive strength. It is the same story for the offence line. The performances of Mevlut Erdinc and Doukara were satisfactory considering that the duo produced 24 goals totally this season, but they are not superman. In general, coach Bulent Korkmaz was not very happy with his creative players. In the winter break, they released two of them, but their successors haven’t had the desired effect as they could just score only one goal in 2019. They had to cope with their financial situation during the whole season. Because of their ongoing debts, they failed to get the licence from UEFA. So they were not going to be allowed to play in the European Cups, even if they deserved it. It seems like they need to improve their financial situation in order to avoid any problems in the next season. To do it, they have to sell some good players.

Player of the Season: Nazim Sangare
