Football Season Review

№5: Yeni Malatyaspor

Although Yeni Malatya were disappointing during most of 2019 and parted company with coach Erol Bulut 5 fixtures before the season’s end, they managed to finish the season in the 5th place which brought them the right to play in the European Cups for the 1st time. As most of the clubs, they also have financial issues. In order to decrease it, they had to sell their best attacker, Boutaib, during the winter break. Their offensive strength lost its effectiveness following that despite two arrivals. Since that, they have not scored enough goals in the season’s 1st part and failed to get good results especially in February. Guilherme and Aleksic were also unable to offer the same performance in the season’s 2nd part. The problem between the board and Adem Buyuk also affected their offensive quality very negatively as they failed to score in 2019’s 5 league fixtures. Besides their 5th place, they progressed very well in the Turkish Cup, but they were kicked out of it in the semi finals by the eventual winners, Galatasaray. In particular, the defensive players line Mina & Chebake have done well and took important roles in some victories. However, the coach was not happy with the performances of the midfielders except Donald and Murat Yildirim. The board decided to sack coach Erol Bulut following just one victory in 11 games. The board took a brave decision filling his role and put the sportive director Ali Ravci in charge. His arrival paid well and they recorded a 3-game winning run with him, which gave them a big prize. They have already come to an agreement with a new coach. They need to make some very good decisions in the summer as a very busy schedule awaits them soon.
