Football Season Review

№6: Fenerbahce

All dominant teams sometime happen to face a bad season. Fenerbahce had never done it so badly. When the season’s 1st league fixture was over, the Yellow Canaries grabbed all three points, but it was clear that they did not deserve to win. The upcoming fixtures showed that there were lots of wrongs in the team’s chemistry. The sportive director Comolli and his transfers were criticized a lot during the summer. Fixture by fixture, it was understood that their transfer policy was not right. That is why they had to finish the season’s 1st part in the relegation zone. During the winter break, they parted company with coach Philipp Cocu and his assistant Erwin Koeman respectively. As requested by the fans, coach Ersun Yanal was given all authority in order to make the team get out of this crisis. In this period, they saw an early exit from the Turkish Cup and ended their Europa League campaign. They ignored it, because to survive in the league was more important. The coach also gave all his energy to the league and they suffered only 3 defeats in 2019. This performance brought them to the 6th place from the relegation spots. In general, such a good performance is welcomed well, but it is a disappointing end for a team always expected to fight for the title. Despite a negative performance, there were also a few positive things for the team. Eljif Elmas used all chances well and promised with his good performance. Despite the team’s disappointing results, the young Macedonian talent’s capacity was seen by some clubs. The coach is aware that he has to improve the quality of his squad. It seems like they will be very active in the summer transfer market in order to erase the bad memories from last season.
