Football Season Review

№9: Alanyaspor

When Alanya kicked off the season with coach Mesut Bakkal, they were carrying lots of hopes, but they found themselves in the relegation zone after the 12th fixture. What just happened on those days? They had to lose the services of key defender Welinton for a while. Besides him, they were unable to get desired performances from the new arrivals like Bobo. The board also had to sell Emre Akbaba to Galatasaray in order to improve their financial situation. Considering all this, to be unsuccessful was unavoidable. His successor Sergen Yalcin’s 1st task was to make the defence line get better and he did it in a short period. During the whole season, they recorded 11 clean sheets and 9 of them were recorded during his charge. They were especially great at home as they hurt all title contenders. However, they were one of the good performers on the road. During the winter break, they added two defensive minded players like Caulker & Ozan Tufan. In general, it is difficult to find a quality player, but the coach made accurate decisions in bringing them. In particular, the latter earned a call-up to the Turkish national team following his good performance. No doubt that Papiss Cisse was the key performer of their success as the Senegalese striker offered a 16-goal performance. Villafanez, Campos and Fernandes have also helped the coach with their 17-goal & 15-assist performance. As soon as the season was over, they could not come to an agreement with the coach. If they manage to replace him well, they can repeat this season’s performance at least as their squad are capable of doing it.

Player of the Season: Papiss Cisse
