Football Season Review

№13: MKE Ankaragucu

The fans were very hopeful for the last season when Ankaragucu were standing among the top five in the last days of October, but they had to find themselves in the relegation zone after collecting only one point in 9 fixtures between November and February. That is why the board felt like they had to take some important decision in the winter break. First of all, they parted company with coach Ismail Kartal and he was replaced by coach Mustafa Kaplan who is a coach very familiar with the club. Then they released many players who failed to meet the expectations including Faty, Cerci, Heurtaux, Bifouma, Kone and Mokhtar. Considering that, the arrivals’ adaptation process was very risky, but 11 new players, who mostly became a part of the starting line up, did a great job and helped the coach survive at the top level. Above all, Tyler Boyd and Dever Orgill scored some decisive goals and enabled the capital city side to remain undefeated at home in the last 7 fixtures. Hopf and Korcan did not satisfy the coach. So the 3rd keeper Altay was given a chance in 2019 and he used it greatly. There are already some offers for him. In fact, they will have to work hard in the summer in order to retain the team’s quality, because they had to add those winter break signings on loan as their budget was not sufficient to sign them on a permanent deal. So their 1st task will be to find some sources. If they can manage to do it, they are likekly to survive with the support of their noisy fans again.

Player of the Season: Tyler Boyd
