Football Season Review

№16: Bursaspor

After the last season was kicked off, the Crocodiles failed to taste their 1st victory till October. It was a sign of what was to come. In that period, they could just score 4 goals. Necid was sold to Den Haag and Stancu failed to meet the expectations. Besides them, Tunay, Lima and Yusuf failed to offer what coach Samet Akbaba requested. During the whole season, they never managed to solve their offensive problems. That is why they were the lowest goal scorers of the league. In fact, their away performance was acceptable as they suffered only 6 defeats, three of them were recorded in Istanbul, but they lost many points at home where they were used to be strong. 4 victories at home were not good enough to provide them with the survival ticket. Their squad’s level was not very high, but the coach was not generally able to use it with high efficiency because of injuries. Sakho, Umut Nayir, Shehu, Saivet and Tunay Torun were unable to show what they could do. Considering that, their early cup exit by a lower division side was a good thing, but they could not use it well. After Aziz Behich was sold to PSV, the coach gave a chance to Umut Meras and he did a good job. That is why his name is already whispered in the summer transfer market. Although their defence line was short, they offered a satisfactory performance and let all opponents produce the fewest shot attempts. That is why they offered the best defensive performance follıowing Galatasaray and Besiktas. Their recent efforts were not good enough. If they manage to keep the core of their defence line and add some enough quality for the 1st league, they will not wait for a long time to come back to the Super League.
