ADO Den Haag endured one of the most heartbreaking endings of a season imaginable in the play-offs in May as they seemed set for a dream promotion after going 3:0 up against Excelsior at home but ended up drawing 4:4 and then losing on penalties on home soil. It left a wound that will need some time to heal but it was nevertheless a really impressive campaign for ADO as they overcame loads of obstacles to go so close and deserve credit for the spirit they showed. Giovanni Franken, who was only appointed in February, will not be around anymore as a manager, as the club decided to appoint the former Feyenoord legend Dirk Kuyt on what is his first job as a first-team manager. Now the aim is well and truly to go for promotion, once all the issues off the field have been cleared by the new owners, and the coach knows well that it is the title or bust for him and the squad in the coming months. That said, the ADO squad looks competitive rather than ready to dominate at the moment and there have not bene too many major additions that are ready to make impact right away. Keeping hold of Thomas Verheydt has so far been the biggest win of the off-season for the Storks and if they can get another 20-goal season out of the bruising, burly striker, they will be in business at the top end of the standings. Getting in a good alternative option up front in Ajax talent Max de Waal is a shrewd move. Yet, the squad feels a bit incomplete and more work is needed to make ADO a genuine promotion contender.

Target

Will be gunning for automatic promotion.
