Bochum’s four year stint in the Bundesliga came to an end last season after a troublesome campaign. A nightmare start led to the sacking of boss Peter Zeidler and they failed to really recover after. The appointment of Dieter Hecking did bring a slight resurgence, but they eventually finished bottom of the pile. The club feel that the experienced Hecking has done enough to continue his role as head-coach, but he will have his work cut out to achieve a swift return to the top tier. Departures were inevitable after relegation, so it's no surprise that defensive duo Oermann and Bernardo have moved to Bundesliga clubs after being two of their better players last season. Having said that, the club have moved quickly to address this with the signing of experienced Bundesliga defender Vogt. Kleine-Bekel and Strompf are also solid additions to the backline. Despite some other outgoings and loan players returning to their parent-clubs, there is still plenty of quality in the ranks. Hofmann, Sissoko, Holtmann, and Bero are more than enough to keep them competitive. Bochum are likely to be organised and tough to beat under Hecking, but could need more in forward areas. Another Ibrahim Sissoko has been signed up front, but only 3 goals for previous club Saint-Etienne last season, won’t get mouths watering, however he will certainly be a handful with his physical presence.

Target

Bochum will be hoping for a swift return to the Bundesliga, but as the past has proven, no team gets an easy route back in this division. Target - top 3.
