Last season was a struggle for Furth, only securing their survival on the final match-day. The Cloverleaf started the season well but things soon unravelled. After a string of poor results, culminating in a humiliating Derby defeat to Nurnberg, coach Alexander Alex Zorniger was dismissed. Young boss Jan Siewert managed to steady the ship slightly, but a winless run of 8 towards the end of the campaign resulted in him also losing his job. Thomas Kleine and his assistant Milorad Petkovic will continue to lead the side for the coming season after guiding the club to safety in the final two matches of the previous campaign. It remains to be seen if they can move the team forward but there is a positive feel that the board have made the right decision this time. A revamp of the squad was needed in the summer and this has certainly been the case, so far 13 new players have come through the door, with nearly as many departing. A lot of the newcomers are young but there are some experienced faces too, such as Dehm, Ziereis, and Higl. Right-back Asta is their only significant loss but young talent Reich and the experienced Dehm should help to fill the void. Gießelmann, Jung, and Meyerhofer have also moved on, but were in and out of the side last season due to inconsistent performances. Left winger Keller could be the pick of the signings after a decent showing with Ulm last season. Defensive midfielder Olesen will be hoping to display his capabilities after failing to break into the Koln team. Sillah is another youngster looking to make his mark up front, having joined from Hamburger. Key duo Hrgota and Green are also still on board so Furth should improve. It could take some time for the new look side to settle, and that may be a confidence issue if results don’t go their way early on.

Target

It is hard to believe Furth were playing in the Bundesliga only 4 years ago, but this seems a long way off again. Target - top half.
