A youthful Nurnberg were pleasing on the eye last season under coach Miroslav Klose, but lacked the consistency needed to mount any real promotion challenge. They eventually finished in 10th position after a poor end to the campaign, but can be encouraged by their performances overall. Stability has been a big problem at the club for a number of years so it’s refreshing to see Klose still at the helm and hopefully building for a strong future. Key young duo Castrop and Tzolis have been snapped up, but the core of the squad remains for now. Of course additions were needed for Nurnberg to be serious contenders and so far they can be relatively pleased with business. Young talent remains at the heart of the operation with Lisewski, Chaikhoun, von der Hitz, and Mandic all plucked from top-tier youth teams. Klose has also recognised the need for some experienced heads to keep the squad in check. Georgian defender Lokhoshvilli should add strength to a defence that was a little exposed last season. Tom Baack has matured in a defensive midfield role with third-tier Verl while Telalovic and Biron know where the goal is.

Target

Small steps are required for Nurnberg in their quest to get back among the elite. The club will be expecting progress from last season, but it may still be too early for any dreams of promotion. Target - top 6.
