It’s been a trying and testing summer for Keith Millen as he takes pre-season for the first time as a manager. He has captured the signing of experienced midfielder Neil Kilkenny in an inspired move but the arrivals of lower league men Ryan Taylor and Yannick Bolasie are not particularly inspiring. They have managed to hang on to key striker Nicky Maynard – for now – and his goals will be crucial to City’s chances of a good campaign. Also vital will be David James after the veteran goalkeeper signed a new deal in the summer. James was in outstanding form last term showing just why he was an international. James and Maynard aside, City lack real genuine class to mount a promotion challenge and it could be yet another season of mid-table mediocrity for their long suffering fans.

Target

Millen will hope that he can forge a decent team spirit amongst the group to mount an unlikely play-off challenge.
