In the closing stages of the 2010/11 Championship season it appeared Nigel Pearson’s Hull City could gatecrash the playoff places. However, the Tigers eventually finished in 11th place - 10 points off the top six. In their first season back in the second tier Hull drew far too many games to be considered serious promotion contenders, but Pearson has spent wisely this summer. Promising Manchester United youngsters Joe Dudgeon and Corry Evans agreed to leave the comfort zone of Old Trafford, completing permanent moves to the KC Stadium. Former Leicester skipper, Jack Hobbs, who found himself out of favour under Foxes’ new boss Sven Goran Eriksson, is likely to anchor the defence. While the experience of Nottingham Forest duo Paul McKenna and Dele Adebola will prove useful over the course of the season, they also improve the spine of the team as a whole. Hull are a side with definite potential if the summer signings can gel as hoped.

Target

Cement a place in the top half and push for a playoff place in the second half of the season once summer signings have gelled within the squad.
