2022/23 was almost an unbelievable season for the Sky Blues. After a terrible start, they found a rich vein of form which propelled them all the way to the playoff final. However, after a tight encounter with Luton they were beaten on penalties. The off season has seen a trimming of the squad and the departure of some of their important players last season, most notably top scorer Gyokeres (21 league goals). The Swedish striker has been a nightmare for Championship defences to deal with over the last two campaigns but has now made a big money move to Portugal. Regular members of the back three McNally and Doyle have also departed. In terms of incomings, Coventry have beaten off stiff competition to sign young Everton striker Simms for around £5 million. He has similar attributes to Gyokeres and impressed on loan at Championship side Sunderland last season. Their other recruits look solid with Thomas and Latibeaudiere direct replacements for McNally and Doyle. The Sky Blues are still led by experienced boss Mark Robins who has done a terrific job in leading the club’s revival over the last few seasons. Their excellent midfield remains intact for now although the influential Hamer continues to be linked with a move away. The overall squad currently looks light especially in the wing-back areas and up front with Simms and Godden the only two senior strikers.

Target

Playoffs. Could experience hangover initially from last season but still have a quality looking squad.
