The start of the 2022/23 season saw QPR in the mix for promotion but their form dipped coinciding with manager Michael Beale going to Rangers. An awful run of one win in 20 league games saw relegation emerge as a real possibility before a couple of wins towards the end of the campaign saw them survive. Gareth Ainsworth remains in charge. The former Wycombe boss took over in February, he only managed three wins from 13 games, but has been given the chance to build his own team. Ainsworth promised big changes and the playing squad has been cleared somewhat. Dieng, Johansen, Amos and Dickie have been fixtures of the side in recent seasons, they have all gone. Laird, Roberts, Iroegbunam and Lowe have also departed after their loan deals expired. Little money is available to spend and the signings made are not that exciting. Arguably the squad looks weaker than at the end of last season. Smyth will be hoping to make the step up after impressing in Leyton Orient’s run to the League Two title last season. QPR still have attacking players who have starred previously in this division such as Chair, Willock and Dykes, it is Ainsworth’s job to get the best out of them. Defensively, QPR were poor last campaign, conceding 71 goals in their 46 league games, only second bottom Blackpool (72) conceded more. The squad currently is thin and looks short of defensive cover.

Target

Expectations are low. Trying to stay in the division.
