Football Season Guide

The 2022/23 season saw Swansea have periods of brilliance but also disappointing spells. They made a late, late run for the playoffs with seven wins and two draws from their last nine games but in the end finished 10th, three points shy of the top six. The off season has seen manager Russell Martin go to Southampton. His two seasons in charge saw him earn plaudits for a progressive possession-based style of play. The new boss is Michael Duff. His first Championship job after successful stints at Cheltenham and Barnsley. Pre-season has seen him adopt a different style, more direct, trying to get the ball forward quicker. On the playing staff there have been more outgoings than incomings. Standout members of the defence last season, Latibeaudiere and Manning, have moved on. Coming in, winger Ginnelly performed well in the Scottish Premiership last season, Yates hit 14 Championship goals for Blackpool in 2022/23. Swansea have a strong starting XI. With Yates, Ntcham and Piroe a potent strike force at this level. Although Piroe (19 league goals last season) continues to attract interest. The problem currently is that the squad is very thin and they have a few injuries to contend with. It is not an ideal situation being behind on recruitment, especially with a new manager trying to put his own stamp on a club.
