An unbelievable season for Sheffield Wednesday in 2022/23 saw them promoted from League One but they had to do it the hard way. Despite amassing 95 points they were forced into the playoffs. It looked like they were going to fall short but an incredible comeback semi-final win and Windass’ extra-time goal in the final saw them return to the Championship after two years away. The momentum built up has subsided somewhat in the off season with manager Darren Moore leaving the club. It took some time to name his replacement but now Xisco Munoz was appointed. The Spaniard has Championship experience, leading Watford to promotion during the 2020/21 season. With the change of manager, player recruitment has been slow. Left-back James has been signed permanently after doing well on loan at Wednesday last season. Winger Delgado and striker Fletcher are the only two other recruits so far, Munoz has worked with both players before. There have been no significant departures with the Owls currently holding onto their key players from last season. With the squad as it stands, Sheffield Wednesday have a core of experienced players who know the Championship and have been together for several seasons. The lack of signings to freshen the side up is a worry. The team that is promoted through the playoffs is usually playing catch up in preparation and recruitment plus Sheffield Wednesday have a new manager who is trying to implement his own ideas.

Target

Staying up.
