A superb season for Plymouth in 2022/23 saw them win League One and earn promotion back to the Championship. In a tight title race, Plymouth beat Ipswich and Sheffield Wednesday to top spot, finishing the season with an incredible 101 points from their 46 games. Steven Schumacher was the man who led the Pilgrims to promotion and he will now get the chance to pit his wits against Championship managers. The off season has seen the departure of some of their regular starters from last campaign with centre-back Wilson, experienced playmaker Mayor and striker Ennis all leaving after their contracts expired. Plymouth are limited in the transfer market with the lowest budget in the Championship. They have broke their club record with the £1 million signings of winger Whittaker and full-back Mumba who both starred on loan at Plymouth last season. The transfer policy so far has focused on bringing in youth over experience. A strength of Plymouth last season was their home form and that is likely to be crucial again this campaign as teams make the trip to the south west coast. Out of the 23 home league matches they played in 2022/23 they won 20 of them. Scoring goals could be a problem. With Ennis, Azaz and Cosgrove (28 league goals between them last season) now gone, much depends on Hardie (17 goals in all competitions in 2022/23), who has been scoring in pre-season.

Target

Staying up is the primary objective.
