Although they won the Turkish Cup, Trabzon were heavily hurt by the huge disappointment of losing the league title squandering 12 points in the last 7 fixtures. In many fixtures they took the lead, but ended up failing to defend it. Following that, the board parted company with coach Huseyin Cimsir and decided to hire Eddie Newton who worked for Chelsea from March 2012 to January 2020. It will be his first experience as a head coach. It is obvious that Trabzon will be very hungry to win the title this time. At this point, their European ban could be an advantage as they will spend less energies during the campaign comparing to the other contenders. In the summer transfer market they lost some important players like Jose Sosa, who had produced 9 goals & 7 assists, and Filip Novak, who was the top scoring left-back, to their direct rivals Fenerbahce. However, they added the likes of Flavio, Trondsen, Marlon and Plaza. Since they have to offer a much better financial performance following the ban, they failed to add high-profile players. This is a cause of concern for all the fans about the upcoming season. The good news is that they still have the league top scorer Sörloth, Nwakaeme and Ekuban, but it is not clear who will support them offensively. In order to at least repeat last season’s performances, the board have to find an answer to this question. Once again, they will aim at winning the cup again beside competing for the title.

Target

First place and a cup win. They have to fight for the title, although this might be a little unrealistic due to a weakened squad.
