The Yellow Fever ended their 3-year absence from the top flight. For most of the season promotion seemed unlikely. Barely made the top 6 at the end of an underwhelming regular season. Took a big gamble before the play-offs, long-serving manager David Nielsen left and exciting young coach Niki Zimling was given his first-ever head coaching role at senior level. He was coaching Aarhus U19s from 2023 up until April 2026. Under Zimling an amazing transformation happened. Horsens were the best team in the play-offs where they stayed undefeated – 7 wins and 3 draws. As a result they climbed from sixth to second place and secured an inspiring promotion. The big reason for this success was the great defending under Zimling. Horsens conceded just 3 goals in the 10 play-off games. The ability to soak up pressure without making mistakes will be hugely useful in the top flight. Zimling’s focus on defence could be beneficial for the team even with the star left-back Tape now sold for a club-record fee. His departure is a blow. Milicevic and Madsen are the other left-backs on the roster so one of them will likely be promoted to regular this season. This being the only major departure means the defensive stability should still be there. Might use 5-man defence in some matches, especially away from home and against the top teams. Expected to play with a fluid front line where fast players suited for counterattacks and counter-pressing will start often. The two new signings so far are young Finnish players that fit this description – Julius Körkkö and Jimi Tauriainen. The former only this year emerged as a senior but has caught the eye and Horsens are likely to use him often.
