Only a year after being relegated Lyngby bounced back up in style. Never rivalled much and deservedly became Division 1 champions. Topped the standings after the regular season and in the play-offs only increased their lead further. The start wasn’t great. Sacked the manager at the end of August, barely in the top 6 at that stage. However, since Mikkel Jespersen was trusted with the job during the winter break Lygnby had been nothing but solid. This is the first-ever head coaching job for Jespersen. He spent the last two years as an assistant coach at Mainz 05 in Germany. Under him Lyngby began to use much more overlapping runs and also their high pressing became a lot more effective. The same tactics should be retained this season too. Parted ways with duo of solid defenders in the summer. Kristjánsson signed to replace Ivančević at left-back. The former is an exciting prospect that should play a vital role. Promising young playmaker Højer and solid goalie Kochen were loaned in for the entire season. Both should be used a lot. Both young but predicted to have bright futures so Lyngby can benefit from their services. The squad has quality but the size of it remains a concern. On paper the starting XI, if everyone is available, look solid. The problem is there is no depth in various positions. This all will likely change before the transfer window shuts in September. At the moment of writing, 22-year-old Mikkel Fischer is the only natural centre-back on the books. Lack depth on the wings too. Because of that might continue to use 2 centre forwards up front in a 4-4-2 shape. With the addition of Thorvaldsson now have 4 exciting strikers so at least in attack there is an abundance of options.

Target

Target mid-table finish. Staying out of the bottom 2 will be enough to consider the season a success.
