Brondby had another disappointing campaign despite being the most consistent defensive side in the league. No team had more 0:0 draws – 8 – and more clean sheets – 11. Yet the inability to score goals and win matches cost the team. Slow start to the campaign led to the sacking of coach Birk in early September when Brondby were fourth in the standings. Controversial Steve Cooper took charge. His dubious selection choices and bad transfer moves in January mounted huge criticism long before the season finished. Cooper is now gone and Thomas Nörgaard, in charge of Sonderjyske for the last 4 years, takes over. Changes to the style of play and personnel used under the new manager are guaranteed. On paper Brondby have a squad capable to even challenge for a title. Yet lack of speed is still a major concern. No explosive wide players are found on the roster. The two main moves this summer so far were to add 37-year-old striker Mortensen from champions Aaarhus and exciting young playmaker Ejdum from Odense. Keeping the core of the back line that did pretty well is great. The 2 new attacking acquisitions provide some hope for better forward actions. Mortensen is expected to share the load up front with Dennis. The latter unconvincing all spring. Nörgaard used mainly a 4-3-3 shape in his previous job. Brondby mostly played in a 3-4-2-1 formation last season. Mixing the two seems to be the logical way forward. The depth of the squad is good and quality back-ups are available for every position. This combined with the absence of European fixtures should help Brondby to always have fresh legs on the pitch.

Target

The big goal is to make the top 3 and qualify for Europe. Deep Danish Cup run is also expected as the hunger for silverware is huge among the fanbase.
