Silkeborg flirted with danger all of last season. They ended up surviving but finished just 2 points above the relegation zone. Difficult regular season, only 5 wins in 22 rounds, saw them enter the play-offs in the bottom 2. There vital wins against direct rivals Randers and Fredericia helped a lot but the scare was pretty real all year. Naturally, after such a difficult campaign tons of changes took place with the squad this summer. The main one was at the helm. The longest-serving manager in the entire league Nielsen ended his 7-year reign. He’s been replaced by Morten Dahm Kjærgaard. He managed Aarhus Fremad for the last 6 years and has very limited top flight experience. The main reason for the survival last season were the 8 goals in 10 play-off games scored by Tonni Adamsen. He was sold now and will be bitterly missed. The other massively important player to leave was team captain and main goalie for multiple years Larsen. Silkeborg are yet to confirm a significant new signing. The team’s ownership situation remains insecure. If anything the squad’s depth and quality are lesser right now than they were last term. The new manager used 5 different formations during the pre-season. He seems to favour most a 4-2-3-1 shape but the displays were significantly better in a 3-4-2-1 formation. It is very likely that the early months of the campaign will be all about trying various tactics. On the road will likely rely on fast breaks a lot. Last season both McCowatt and Bakiz had success in transition. Their speed and ability to play off each other makes them very dangerous in such situations. Attacking midfielder Oliver Ross didn’t feature much since his arrival in February. He is expected to play a lot more this season. In the past he’s been used as a false 9 at times. Might start some games in that role as the only two natural centre forwards on the books right now are inexperienced teenagers. A new signing in attack can be expected this summer.

Target

Lack of incoming transfers suggest the only goal is to avoid relegation.
