It was another case of deja vu for Hamburger last season, just like the previous two campaigns, they looked hot favourites for promotion but once again fell away towards the end, eventually finishing in 4th place. Tim Walter was the latest coach to be appointed in the summer and the club will be hoping he is the man to finally guide the club back to the top flight after a four year absence. The biggest challenge for Walter will be to change the fragile mentality of the side, there is no doubting the talent in the squad but when the going gets tough they have buckled in recent seasons. The arrival of Jonas Meffert from Holstein Kiel and Sebastian Schonlau should help to bring some stability to the midfield and defensive areas, while Miro Muheim is also a good back-up to left-sided defender Tim Leibold. Hamburger will again be a force going forward, despite the loss of goal machine Simon Terodde to Schalke. The experienced Robert Glatzel certainly knows where the goal is and young striker Mikkel Kaufmann is another exciting addition on loan from Copenhagen.

Target

Promotion. Hamburger will be expected to be in the mix for promotion but, with the competition even more fierce this season, they could again miss out. Consistency and mental strength are key, especially at the business end of the season.
