Nurnberg again fell way short of what was expected last season but they did improve a lot compared to the previous campaign, eventually finishing just below mid-table. It is very much a work in progress for Nurnberg and coach Robert Klauss and they will be hoping to push on further as a club this season. Nurnberg have looked to address their defensive vulnerabilities in recent seasons by bringing in experienced central defender's Schindler and Hubner, as well as talented youngster Fischer at right-back. The problems haven't just been in defence for Nurnberg but also their inability to see off the so-called lesser sides, something they will have to improve on this season. The reintroduction of fans to the stadiums could also boost their home form, a place where they have struggled during the pandemic. There were good signs towards the end of the last campaign that the togetherness in the squad was growing under Klauss. There is also lots of talent, especially in attacking areas with Daehli, Hack, Lohkemper and Schaffler all capable of unlocking defences.

Target

Top six. Although the club as a whole would expect more, its gradual progress that is needed, there is hope that they could fight for promotion but a top six finish is a more realistic target.
