A bitterly disappointing end to last season saw Werder Bremen slip into the second-tier for the first time since 1980/81. Florian Kohfeldt was unsurprisingly shown the door after 9 defeats in their final 10 games in the Bundesliga and has since been replaced by Markus Anfang, a manager with plenty of experience but one that doesn’t tend to stay in his post for the long-term. Anfang, as expected, has lost some of his better players in the summer, regulars from last season, Rashica, Moisander and Selassie have all moved on. They will of course be a loss to the side but you still expect the club to challenge with the players they have. Bremen have looked at defensive areas to make improvements in the transfer market. Jung and Park are solid additions, while Mai, on loan from Bayern, should also make a healthy contribution to the backline. Midfielder Nicolai Rapp has been brought in from Union Berlin and should be a good addition after impressing in this division on loan at Darmstadt last season. Eggestein and Schmidt will also have a point to prove after returning from loan spells.

Target


Title/promotion. Werder Bremen will certainly be one of the favourites to win the division and return to the top flight, however, there could still be a lack of confidence in the ranks after the last campaign and a confident start is a must.
