It was another frustrating season for Hertha under coach Leitl as they fell short in their quest for promotion. Their 7th place finish was an improvement on the previous campaign, but more was expected with the quality in the ranks. Although Leitl remains in charge, a different approach is being administered on the player side with the club adopting a less is more approach to the upcoming campaign. The loss of young prodigy Eichhorn, key duo Reese and Cuisance and goalkeeper Ernst is likely to affect Hertha’s strength, but a clearout elsewhere was needed to reduce the budget on over-inflated player wages. The Old Lady have made just one signing so far with attacking midfielder Adewumi joining on loan from Burnley, more is expected before the window shuts but with 7 youth players recruited to the first-team, it’s clear what direction the club wish to take. Despite the losses, there is still enough quality in the squad for Hertha to challenge, a fresh approach and youthful energy will also make them unpredictable. The club from the capital do look a lot weaker so more recruitment is likely to be needed, a poor start could also see them heading in the wrong direction.

Target

Promotion. Sleeping giants Hertha should not be completely ruled out in their quest to return to the top flight, but it is difficult to see at this present time.
