The Storks were in danger of back-to-back relegation last season but the decision to replace coach Rapp with Walter proved to be the right one, as he guided them to safety with 5 wins from their last 8 games. Walter has been busy assembling his squad for the new campaign with 8 new arrivals so far. Striker Kvilitaia and defender Schonlau will add quality and experience at both ends of the field; the remainder of Kiel's signings are under the age of 25. Winger Alidou could be a good addition if he can fulfill his potential, having been unable to settle anywhere for long. German U19 international Reimers will compete for the left wing position. Argentine Balzi is certainly a player to watch, his creativity and goals from the midfield should help out an attack that was lacking last season. Japanese duo Sekine and Abe are also likely to improve the squad with their versatility and technical ability. The decision of Walter to stay will make Kiel dangerous opposition this season, they are likely to be a lot more attacking and pleasing on the eye. There may still be vulnerabilities defensively though. There is still uncertainty around the future of key all-rounder Bernhardsson, a player they struggled without last season due to injury. If the Swedish international does leave, he will be hard to replace.

Target

Top six - Kiel could certainly be a surprise package this season, but it is hard to see anything more than a top-six finish.
