Football Season Review

№5: Alanyaspor

Although they recorded their best league performance ever, Alanya do not feel very happy as they could have done much better. The cup final defeat was also cause for further disappointment for them in the end. At this point, to be in Europe for the 1st time is a sweet consolation for the South coast city team. Their success was absolutely based on an offensive minded style. Spurred by experienced attacker Papiss Cisse’s goals, coach Erol Bulut’s team managed to pass title holders like Fenerbahce and Galatasaray in the table. The club’s best league performance in history was largely backed on by their home run. During the whole season, the best line up was hardly touched by injuries. So the coach was able to get the necessary efficiency from his productive players like Junior Fernandes and Tasos Bakasetas. Experienced Campos and the season’s surprise man Onur Bulut also gave a great support. Had they not been hurt a lot in February, they could have finished the current season in a higher place. In particular, their problems showed up in some fixtures against strong teams. It seems like they need more quality in order to get more points in those kind of tough fixtures. In terms of next season, there are many question marks. First of all, coach Erol Bulut is likely to leave as some important players are going too. At this point, the board’s behaviour will be decisive for the next season. If they can properly replace the departures, they have a bright future ahead.

Player of the Season: Papiss Cisse
