Football Season Review

№16: Yeni Malatyaspor

Here comes one of the season’s three jackpot winners... Although Yeni Malatya collected only 8 points in the 2nd part of the season and deserved relegation, they are going to be a part of the top level in the next season after the Turkish FA decided to save all three relegated teams because of corona virus effect. When the league entered into the winter break, they were standing in the top 8 and everything was going well. The board decided to sell Guilherme and Adis Jahovic who had produced 16 goals & 7 asissts in the season’s 1st part. According to the board, it was a good decision in terms of the club’s finance, but the team lost most of their offensive power and the start of the end was unavoidable after that. Coach Sergen Yalcin saw it and resigned. Following him, neither coach Kemal Ozdes, nor coach Hikmet Karaman could find a solution to the team’s terrible league run. During this period, they failed to score any goals in 7 fixtures and could record only two clean sheets. Along with keeper Farnolle, the backline did not manage to meet the expectations. Following the departure of Jahovic, 37-year-old Umut Bulut has never been the cure of their offensive illness. Following the pandemic break, they have been unable to get efficiency from Bifouma, who has become the top scorer of the team with 6 goals, and then he left the team. They were never successful in decisive fixtures because of their lack of quality. The board declared that they will take lessons from this season’s slip-ups. All departments of the team need to be improved. If not, nothing can help them this time around.

Player of the Season: Thievy Bifouma
