Football Season Review

№7: Fenerbahce

Fenerbahce had another disappointing season and finish it out of top 5 places once again. The biggest reason for this was the lack of strength in squad. Things got even worse when they started to be hit by injuries. For some part of the sesaon, Vedat Muriqi, who is 1.94 m, could do well with his stubborn style and winning ability of physical confrontations when the ball is in air, but then he could no longer be effective once he was not supported well anymore. As usual, they were strong at home and the existing amount of points were collected in front of their fans, but they did not do anything special on the road and collected only one more point than two of the bottom 3 teams. After facing a 6-game winless league run, the board parted company with coach Ersun Yanal and caretaker coach Tahir Karapinar was appointed, but everybody knows that Volkan Demirel and captain Emre Belozoglu, who have a big impact in the club, were in charge. Maybe, it was the biggest reason for coach Ersun Yanal’s failure. He was unable to place his authority over the team. Of course, the poor performances of Jailson, Tolgay, Sadik, Mehmet Ekici and Altay prepared the end of the coach. In terms of next season, there are lots of things to do for the new coach who will probably be Erol Bulut who did a great job in Alanya. First of all, he should establish his authority inside the team. Since captain Emre is expected to work as sportive director, the coach should not let anybody interfere with his job. Then, of course, to build a new team is a must. Following Alanya’s offensive line up, a very tough season awaits coach Erol Bulut.
