Football Season Review

№14: Denizlispor

Denizli are absolutely the lucky winner of the season. Although they worked so hard to achieve relegation in the latest fixtures, their direct rivals did not accept their invitations. If Kayseri had scored a late goal before conceding the 2nd and the Turkish FA had not changed the rule about relegation because of Covid 19, they could have found themselves in the 1st league. During the whole season, the fans have seen the coach changing 3 times. The main reason for that is the low level of squad quality. First of all, they are the lowest goal scoring team of the league along with the bottom side Ankaragucu. Except 14-goal top scorer Estupinan, who generally featured as substitute, the whole team scored 27 goals in all fixtures including the cup duties. With three coaches, they had to build long, winless runs. Once they struggle to win, they are not able to end it soon. Especially, they have never been able to use their home advantage. Except Ankaragucu and Yeni Malatya, they have collected the fewest points in Denizli. Plus, they had to face many slipups on the road and they were unable to record any victory in their last 9 trips. While they already had a short squad, they had to lose some players during the pandemic break. That is why they were unable to get necessary support from the bench. In term of next season, they have to solve lots of things. First of all, they have to find a good coach at once. Then the board have to improve the team’s quality. Otherwise, they will be one of the biggest relegation candidates.

Player of the Season: Oscar Estupinan
